ISO Standard

The baseline standard for ADA & EAA compliance. Covers mobile accessibility, low vision, and cognitive disabilities. 78 success criteria.

Latest Standard

Where is WCAG Required by Law?

US Flag

United States (ADA)

As of April 24, 2026, ADA Title III compliance is required for entities serving populations over 50,000. If your store serves US customers, compliance is now expected.

EU Flag

European Union (EAA)

In effect since June 28, 2025. Applies to all ecommerce selling to EU consumers, regardless of HQ location. Uses EN 301 549 (WCAG 2.1), updating to 2.2 soon.

UK Flag

United Kingdom

Equality Act 2010. Post-Brexit, UK maintains its own accessibility requirements aligned with WCAG 2.2 AA.

CA Flag

Canada & Australia

Accessible Canada Act (ACA) and Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) enforce WCAG 2.1 AA for public and private sectors.

UAE Flag

UAE & Dubai (Digital Accessibility Law)

UAE Federal Law & Dubai Universal Design Code mandate WCAG 2.1 AA for all digital platforms - public and private sectors.

Saudi Arabia (SWA)

Saudi Web Accessibility Standards (SWA) mandate WCAG 2.1 AA compliance. Saudi Vision 2030 further enforces digital inclusion nationwide.

WCAG 2.2: Key Changes for Ecommerce

Nine new success criteria that directly impact your checkout and user experience.

Target Size (2.5.8) - AA

All interactive elements must be at least 24x24px. Tiny "Add to Cart" buttons or close icons fail this criterion .

Focus Not Obscured (2.4.11) - AA

Sticky headers, popups, or chat widgets must not hide the element currently focused by the keyboard.

Accessible Authentication (3.3.8) - AA

CAPTCHAs and complex password rules must have alternatives. Allow pasting into password fields.

Redundant Entry (3.3.7) - A

Don't ask for the same information twice. Auto-populate shipping address as billing address.

Dragging Movements (2.5.7) - AA

Any drag-and-drop feature (e.g., sliders) must have a single-click alternative.

Consistent Help (3.2.6) - A

Contact info, FAQ, or chat must appear in the same order across all pages.
